HOW TO ORGANIZE AN ON THE ROAD TRIP

In this period of the year, we start feeling the call of ‘holidays’ and before we know it, our imagination begins to flow towards having new adventures, seeing boundless landscapes, going on beach strolls or perhaps only sitting in the shade of an olive tree with a good book.

Amongst the most loved travelling styles of people of all ages we find the on the road type.  This is because it allows us to see many things during a single holiday; for example: going to the beach after having visited a city of art, or going up a hill and then stopping at the best restaurant of the  region for dinner.

Freedom of movement is the key to concentrate the multiple recreational aspects of a trip.

However, can you go on an on the road trip with children?

There is nothing simpler than that.  You must only be aware of a few more things than usual.

Parents already know that the word of order is organization. Even though an on the road trip may  set the grounds for improvisation and adventure, it is necessary to be a bit more prudent.

Planning visits and stays in advance are useful in order to avoid annoying setbacks.

Once an itinerary is prepared with the aid of Google Maps, it is essential to find lodgings with appropriate characteristics that will satisfy the demands of the entire family.

It is also very important to take the car for a thorough revision before departure. In this way, we can prevent failures, or remaining stranded in the middle of nowhere and distant from inhabited places. If we, instead, opt for a rental car, stipulating good insurance terms shall make us have a peaceful sleep.

If travelling for several hours is somewhat boring for grown-ups, imagine what the feeling is like for children who love being always stimulated and active. For this purpose, we must not forget to bring games in order to keep the children entertained on board.

What is more, when planning an itinerary, it is advisable not to insert stops that are too distant from one another. Sometimes, in fact, it is best to give up on some visits so as to enjoy relaxing moments in the open air.

As we have said before, the advantage of travelling on the road is having lots of freedom of  organization in our chosen itinerary.  Our peninsula is great for this type of adventure.

Amongst the most suitable regions, we find Piemont, Tuscany, Puglia and Basilicata, very photogenic landscapes even if seen through a vehicle window.

Going back to itineraries, which are the most beautiful on the road trips to make in Italy?

Here are some ideas:

Piedmont: an itinerary in Langhe visiting Asti, Alba, Barolo e Cherasco.

Tuscany: a trip amongst the green hills touching Pisa, Lucca, Florence and the magnificent San Giminiano village.

Puglia and Basilicata: in the summer, the most beautiful on the road trip involves Polignano a Mare, Alberobello, Altamura and Matera, where one could stay in a typical farmhouse.
